GRAEAGLE — November 2, 2026. The Forest Service’s Lakes Basin trail guide describes the Round Lake Trail as an option for hikers who want to visit a historic mine and reach the Pacific Crest Trail.
Where to begin
The route begins near the Gold Lake Lodge area parking and follows a moderate route through seasonal meadows toward the former Round Lake Mine site. The guide lists roughly 1.7 miles to the mine and 2.4 miles one way to the PCT junction.
A historic stop
Interpretive signs at the mine site explain the area’s historic activities. Visitors should not enter unstable mine workings, remove artifacts or leave designated routes to investigate shafts.
Who can use the trail
Forest Service information permits pedestrian, bicycle and equestrian traffic on portions of Round Lake Trail, but wheels are prohibited on the intersecting Pacific Crest Trail. Snow and ice may make this route unsuitable in November.
