GRAEAGLE — November 2, 2026. The U.S. Forest Service’s trail guide lists Bear Lakes Loop in the Graeagle Lakes Basin as an approximately two-mile round trip past Big Bear, Little Bear and Cub lakes.
Where the trail starts
The route begins at the parking area beyond the Lakes Basin Campground turnoff from Gold Lake Highway. The Forest Service warns that the access road is narrow, winding and unsuitable for trailers or large vehicles.
Different direction, different climbing
According to the trail guide, starting from the south trailhead and returning via the west trailhead involves a gentler climb than walking the loop in the opposite direction. The trail connects to longer routes in the basin.
Facilities and weather precautions
A restroom and seasonal drinking water are available at the parking area, but not necessarily after the campground season ends. Bring your own treated water and check snow, road status and wildlife advisories.
